What is Sustainable Development

Introduction: We can define sustainable development in this way “which fulfill the needs of the present generation in such a way that the coming generation does not have to make any kind of compromise to meet their needs”, this is what we call sustainable development. .

Understanding this in simple language, we can say that whatever natural sources we are currently using, use them only according to the need, because if used too much, it can also be exhausted, due to which our future generations have to suffer.

We cannot relate sustainable development only to the environment, but it is much more than that. Its main goal is to find better ways of working without affecting the quality of life in sustainable development to meet different needs, social cohesion in different communities, to create equal opportunities to ensure a healthy society.

Sustainable development includes meeting all the needs of the present population as well as satisfying all the needs without jeopardizing the potential of the future generation.

Importance of Sustainable Development

Sustainable development can be a difficult topic to understand because it is a wide range of so many things. Sustainable economic development emphasizes employment, health, education, poverty and social justice along with increasing per capita income. In this, such productive policies are adopted which are environmentally friendly, due to which problems like environmental pollution do not arise.

Provides essential Human Needs

Due to the increase in population every day, human beings have to fight among themselves for basic necessities like food, water, clothes and housing. All countries must meet their basic needs such as employment, food, energy, water and leaves. Always encourages to educate and promote resources in sustainable development.

Agricultural Requirement

Growing population means a lot of need for agriculture. Because the method of feeding more than 3 billion people can be shocking. If the same unsustainable farming, planting, irrigation and harvesting techniques continue to be used in the future, it could become a financial burden to deplete fossil fuel resources.

Sustainable development focuses on sustainable agricultural methods such as effective seeding techniques and crop rotation to promote high yields while maintaining soil integrity, which can produce food for a large population.

Strategies for Sustainable Development

Wind Power: Wind power is an easily available source of energy. In areas where wind speeds are high, windmills can be used to generate electricity. They can be used without any adverse effect on the environment. Although its cost may be high in the beginning. the advantages are such that the high cost is easily absorbed.

Solar Power: Solar energy is capable of generating distribution heat emanating from the Sun. India is naturally endowed with a large amount of solar energy in the form of sunlight. We use it in different ways. Such as for drying clothes, grains and other products as well as items made for daily use. Sunshine is used in winter. Plants use solar energy to perform photosynthesis.

Currently, solar energy is mostly used to generate electricity. Due to which it provides benefits to the consumer as well as helps in reducing pollution.

CNG in Urban Areas: CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) gas is mostly used as a fuel in the public transport system in Delhi. Due to which there has been a significant reduction in air pollution and the air has become cleaner for the last few years.

Crop Rotation: Growing different types of crops on a single land in the same series in the order of growing season is called crop rotation. This reduces the pressure of a set of nutrients, insects and weeds, and the development of resistant insects and weeds.

LPG, Gobar Gas in Rural Areas: As we have seen, most people in rural areas use wood for cooking, due to which it has adverse effects on the environment such as deforestation, loss of green cover, and air pollution. To improve this situation, subsidized cooking gas is being provided to the people. Gobar gas plants are also being made available today. It is a clean fuel, which reduces household pollution to a great extent.

Pillars of Sustainable Development

Introducing the 4 pillars of sustainability; Human, Social, Economic and Environmental.

Human Sustainable: Its main objective is to maintain and improve human capital in the society. Because health education, systems, access to services, knowledge, skills and programs are all under the umbrella of human sustainability. The amount of natural resources in the environment is limited, due to which there is a need to balance sustainable development with improving health and achieving economic well-being for all. Human sustainability includes the development of skills and human capacity to perform organization functions and support sustainability and promote the well-being of communities and society.

Social Sustainability: The main objective of social sustainability is to preserve social capital by investing in and creating services that form the structure of society. Social sustainability is about identifying and managing both positive and negative business impacts on people. Its main objective is to maintain and improve social quality with concepts like tradition and honesty and importance of relations between people.

Economic Sustainability: The purpose of economic sustainability is to maintain capital in the society. And if social sustainability is focused on improving social equality, then economic sustainability is aimed at improving living standards.

Natural Sustainability: The main objective of natural sustainability is to improve the welfare of human life by conserving the capital obtained by nature like water, air, minerals, land etc. Because we can call it environmentally sustainable when the needs of the population are met without compromising on the needs of future generations.

PPT Project

In the end, it is only from all these things that it is concluded that economic development, whose main objective is to increase the production of goods and services to meet the needs of the growing population, puts more pressure on the environment.

Because in the early stages of development the demand for environmental resources was less than the supply. But gradually resources were being used more, due to which the demand also increased. But along with this their supply has remained limited due to their misuse.

The main objective of sustainable development is to promote that kind of development which can reduce the problems arising in the environment and meet the needs of the present generation without compromising on the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs.
